[chan-capi-users] Garbled playback to BRI

My Asterisk 1.4.29 is now talking to my ISDN BRI in both directions, via my Diva 
Server 4BRI-8M PCI 2.0 card, at least for one call at a time (separate problem). 
  It can connect a SIP station to a call on the BRI, in or out, and the audio is 
great.

But when I use the Asterisk Playback() function, on a call coming in the BRI, 
the audio sounds a bit gravelly.  It's understandable, but it sounds a like a 
scratchy vinyl record.  This is playing tt-weasels.gsm, but I found a ulaw file 
of the similar thing and it does it, too, exactly the same. 
Playback(tt-weasels) to the SIP phone sounds perfect.

That is:

  SIP <-> BRI           Good
  Playback(gsm) -> SIP  Good
  Playback(gsm) -> BRI  Scratchy
  Playback(ulaw) -> BRI Scratchy

Any clues?

This is with Diva4Linux 9.0-109-34 (SU2).
